I used to have a small haying business and had a 50HP MF165D with a mower conditioner and sq bailer. Typ field yielded 4T/A and I never felt underpowered.
You can find jobs for more HP than you really need, but too small is too small, and too big is too big. Get something “middle of the road” in terms of physical size and HP. 50HP uses significantly more fuel than the 40HP tractor, and about twice as much as the lil’ 29HP tractor. Granted, I can now run a larger mow.
